It's not merely a matter of 'want to' on the part of Microsoft or Apple. Microsoft Access uses the Microsoft Jet Database Engine. That Engine is deeply integrated into a host of Windows technologies. It's a lot more complicated than a Word Processor or Spreadsheet. I haven’t tried using Access on OS X directly, but from looking at Microsoft Access in AppDB (a compatibility list for Wine), it could work on Wine, which runs some Windows software directly on the OS X (macOS) desktop. You might want to give it a try.
